Becoming Childlike

Let the little children come to me; do not stop them, for it is to such as these that the kingdom of God's belongs. - Mark 10:14

Have you noticed that children have pretty much stopped playing outside? Children have stopped playing games such as hide-n-seek, hopscotch, mother may I, just to name a few. In today's world technology prove to have change the way our children are being entertained.

Nevertheless, children are very special to Jesus. Adults are God's children too and should strive to become more childlike on our spiritual journey. The Scriptures tell us: "Unless you turn and become like children, you will not enter the kingdom of heaven."- Matthew 18:3.

Children should be a constant reminder of how God wants us to become childlike. "Whoever humbles himself as a child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven." - Matthew 18:4

Someone mentioned an internet game, Second Life, to me yesterday and I spent a bit researching it. It made me worry of the future battles my kids will have regarding technology and the internet. Will leaving the house be the thing of the past? It is on my heart to pray and make sure my kids have lots of fun without electronics!

How right you are May. We must all be childlike to be able to enter the kingdom of God. Thanks for the inspired post. God bless you always.

Thank you so much for stopping by May. It was so nice to hear from you.
I agree, faith seems to come so much easier to little ones. I want very much to have faith just like that.

Hello May:)

Children have divinity in them. But as we grow up we lose our innocence, gaiety, thrill, wonder, laughter and so on because we get involved in earthly pleasures and material things which never last. As a result we go away from God. Jesus wants us to be simple, humble, easy to laugh , be happy, satisfied with what we have and enjoy our lives. How many of us can really do that? We are never satisfied with what we have and we want more and more.We want to do better than our neighbors and friends. We want to compete and be successful in this temporary life.

Very interesting post May:)

One of my favorite authors, Brennan Manning, has an interesting take on why Jesus said we need to become like little children. He suggests it's because children can not earn anything and they know it, they recognize their dependence and need. Manning's idea then is that Jesus wants us to recognize our total need of Him, our dependence on Him, our knowledge that we can do nothing to earn this great salvation He died to bring us - we just have to accept it.
