Fear of the LORD

The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction. The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding. The fear of the LORD tendeth to life: and he that hath it shall abide satisfied; he shall not be visited with evil. The fear of the LORD is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death. The fear of the LORD prolongeth days: but the years of the wicked shall be shortened. For great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised: he also is to be feared above all gods. The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring for ever: the judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether. Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man. For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.

ASK YOURSELF:

What does the LORD saith, He will do unto man that fear him? Hint: Malachi 3:17
What does the fear of the LORD really mean?
How do you imagine the fear of the LORD?

For me, fear of the Lord is the fear of doing anything to displease Him and bring shame to His name. It is reverence for God and His divine majesty who is awesome beyond compare. Thanks for the post. God bless you all always.

Hello May:)

Very thought provoking and inspirational post.

People who fear God will lead a honest conscientious life with good deeds, hard work, honesty, integrity, compassion,
love, understanding, give and take and praise God for whatever they have and look forward to everlasting, eternal happiness in the next life.

After all our life on this earth is short although it appears to be long and our soul which is born with us along with our physical body will have to go back to God in the end.If you really ask me our main purpose in this life is to praise God and sing HIS glory.Other things are secondary. We see people living in this world in poverty, suffering, sickness, wars, internal strife etc. which are difficult to bear and understand. Yet this is only temporary and the more we are tested the more will be our reward in heaven.God will judge us in the end by not how much we accumulated in this earth but by what good things we did.

Lovely post May:)

This is interesting. I just wrote a devotional on fear. But I thought fear was only a dreadful thing. Now I'm learning that another meaning of fear is to revere the Lord. I think the closer we get to God, the more the other dreadful kind of fear turns to reverant fear. Great post!

The fear of the Lord is the fear of doing things that displease Him and failing to do what He asks you to do.
In order to always please Him, we should always take time to know Him and His word.
